I found a recipe online. Can I just swap out ingredients to what I have on hand? Answer:
Recipes are formulated and tested as posted. You can use them as written or make adjustments. If you choose to change ingredients or percentages then you will need to test your new formula for performance. When developing a unique recipe by swapping out ingredients, pay attention to the purpose and solubility of the ingredient being adjusted. For example, swap a water-based ingredient for a water-based ingredient and oil for oil. If you change the percentages pay attention to the final percentage of preservative in the formula. You do not want to under-preserve and have an issue with mold or yeast.
