RECIPE: Creamy Vanilla Fig Emulsified Sugar Scrub

We absolutely love emulsified sugar scrubs. They are creamier in texture and do not leak like traditional sugar scrubs. In this recipe you will use moisturizing oils and creamy butters. You have control over how scrubby you want it by adding more or less sugar. We love Vanilla Bean Noel and Mediterranean Fig so in this recipe you will blend the two! It is so dream delicious.

Project Level: Moderate
Estimated Time: 2 Hours
Yield: (8) 8 oz. Jars

Ingredients

  • 32-64 Ounce(s) Sugar - White Granulated Sugar
  • 10 Ounce(s) Olive Oil - Extra Virgin
  • 8 Ounce(s) Sweet Almond Oil - Refined
  • 5 Ounce(s) Cocoa Butter - Natural
  • 5 Ounce(s) Mango Butter - Refined
  • 3.20 Ounce(s) Emulsifying Wax - Soft & Silky
  • 0.50 Ounce(s) Beeswax - White Pastilles
  • 0.34 Ounce(s) Optiphen Plus
  • 0.34 Ounce(s) Vitamin E Natural T-50
  • 0.25 Ounce(s) Vanilla Bean Noel* Fragrance Oil 113
  • 0.25 Ounce(s) Mediterranean Fig Type Fragrance Oil 551
  • 10-15 Drop(s) Stained Glass Violet Purple Liquid Color

Equipment

  •  Glass Mixing Bowl
  •  Spatula
  •  Hand Mixer
  •  Gloves
  •  Microwave Dish
  •  Microwave or Double Boiler

Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Measure out olive oil, sweet almond oil, mango butter, cocoa butter, emulsifying wax, and beeswax. Melt in microwave safe dish or a double boiler until everything is completely melted. Stir well.
  3. Allow temperature to reach 120ºF-125ºF and add optiphen preservative, vitamin E, and the fragrances.
  4. Add color next, by adding a few drops of Crafter's Choice™ Stained Glass Violet Purple Liquid Color
  5. Place in the refrigerator to cool, the consistency should be a thick pudding before adding sugar.
  6. Now whip it with a hand mixer with whisk attachments or your Kitchen-Aid. It will loosen it up a bit but do not worry it will set up nicely when you are done.
  7. Next slowly add the sugar one cup at a time. Mix a minimum of 32 oz. of granulated sugar and a maximum of 64 oz. (Pictured product is with 64 oz. and using 64 oz. results in (8) 8 oz. containers)
  8. Mixture will be like a thick slushy at this time. Immediately scoop into your containers. Let sit overnight.
  9. Add label with instructions to use.
These are great to make several smaller containers of different scents and colors for gift sets. Great for manicure and pedicure sets. Add a scoop and some raffia to make it a gift all by itself.

"Hi, I just recently made this and I just love the results ! And the fragrance is beautiful. I would like to sell this at craft shows in my area. So my question is this: Do I need to "challange test" this recipe at a lab before selling to public? Or can I know that your experts have already tested the formulation? I have followed your recipe exactly. Thank you for your help. Kimberly"
