RECIPE: Pink Grapefruit Lip Balm

This moisturizing lip balm uses Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil. Pink grapefruit essential oil is thought to help stop cravings for sweets, and is also thought to energize and uplift the spirit. This recipe was used in the Simple Secrets video "Dealing with Lip Balm Sinkholes."

Project Level: Easy
Estimated Time: 1/2 Hour
Yield: 48 Lip Tubes

  • 10 Ounce(s) Lip Balm Base for Sticks
  • 1 Teaspoon(s) Neon Coral and Cocktails Powder
  • 1/2 Ounce(s) Grapefruit (Pink) EO - Certified 100% Pure 141
  • 48 Piece(s) .15 oz Natural Lip Tube Only - Round
  • 48 Piece(s) Cap for Lip Tube - Natural, Round

  •  Spoon
  •  Microwaveable Measuring Cup with Pouring Spout
  •  Teaspoon
  •  Beaker - Natural Polypropylene
  •  Thermometer - Infrared, Professional (Gun Style)
  •  Metal Spatula
  •  Microwave
  •  Round Silicone Lip Tube Filling Tray 3001

Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Press all lip tubes into the lip tube filling tray.
  3. Spoon the Lip Balm Base for Sticks into a microwaveable measuring cup with pouring spout.
  4. Heat in the microwave in thirty-second increments until completely melted.
  5. Add the Neon Coral and Cocktails Powder Color into the melted base.
  6. Mix with a spoon until the color is fully incorporated and evenly distributed.
  7. Weigh 1/2 ounce of Pink Grapefruit EO into a small beaker.
  8. Check the temperature of the base with a professional infrared thermometer. When the temperature is below 135º F, add the Pink Grapefruit EO, and mix well.
  9. Allow the lip balm to cool to 130º F.
  10. When the lip balm is at or below 130º F, pour into tubes. Slightly overfill each tube.
  11. Allow the lip balm to cool and harden.
  12. Scrape the excess lip balm from the tray with a metal spatula. This lip balm can be saved to create more lip balm in the future. If saving the lip balm, place the excess in a container and cover.
  13. Pull the lip balm tubes from the tray, and add the cap.
  14. If you plan to sell or give these lip balm tubes to others, we recommend labeling the product.
