RECIPE: Homemade Dishwasher Tablets

You will love these natural dishwasher tablets. They will leave your dishes "squeaky" clean. You may want to use a rinse aide, though, to help prevent water spots on your glasses.

Project Level: Easy
Estimated Time: 1/2 Hour
Yield: 20 Tablets

Ingredients

  • 7.15 Ounce(s) Sodium Carbonate
  • 6.75 Ounce(s) Sodium Borate
  • 4 Ounce(s) Vinegar
  • 2 Ounce(s) European Spa Salt - Medium Grain
  • 1.5 ml(s) Lemon EO- Certified 100% Pure 140
  • 3 Piece(s) Citrus Small Round Soap Mold (MW 154)

Equipment

  •  Large Mixing Bowl
  •  Wire Whisk
  •  Droppers - Plastic
  •4 Piece(s) Clear Poly Bags - 10" x 3" (50 bags/pack)
  •4 Piece(s) Natural Raffia

Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Measure the Sodium Carbonate and the Sodium Borate and place in a large bowl.
  3. Add 2 oz. of European Spa Salt-Medium Grain and mix with a wire whisk.
  4. To dry ingredients, add 4 oz. of vinegar and 1.5 ml Lemon Essential Oil.
  5. Mix ingredients together well until all are incorporated.
  6. Take a small amount of mixture in your hand and squeeze to see if it holds together. If it does not, add a small amount of vinegar until it clumps together.
  7. Lay out the 3 plastic molds on a table and begin to fill the cavities. Pack the mixture in tightly so the mixture stays together when unmolded.
  8. Let set to dry for around 24 hours.
  9. Remove from molds and package.
  10. We filled 4 Poly Bags, 10 x 3, with 5 tablets each and tied the top with raffia.
  11. Label product accordingly.
  12. TO USE: Place one tablet into the detergent chamber of your dishwasher. If it is too large, crumble up the tablet and add to the chamber.

INCI Ingredient Label: Sodium Borate, Sodium Carbonate, Vinegar, Sea Salt, Citrus Medica limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil.

WSP Questions And Answers

"We have hard water and I get a white film on the outside of our dishes if I don't use an additional product like Lemi-Shone or citric acid along with the washing tabs. Could I add citric acid to this recipe to eliminate this two-step process? If so, how much would I add? Also, I don't have the citrus mold in the recipe, but I do have the round guest mold 1607 and the brownie bite molds. Would one of those work instead? Thank you"
