RECIPE: Pumpkin Glitter Hair Chalk

Have fun using these temporary, vibrant colors in your hair.

Project Level: Easy
Estimated Time: 1 Hour
Yield: Approx. 24 Chalk

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 Cup(s) Warm Water
  • 1 1/2 Cup(s) Bubble Bar Hardener
  • 1 1/2 Cup(s) White Kaolin Clay
  • 3 Tablespoon(s) Neon Purple Play Date Powder
  • 3 Tablespoon(s) Neon Yellow Hello Powder
  • 3 Tablespoon(s) Neon Pretty In Pink Powder
  • 3 Tablespoon(s) Neon Orange You Glad Powder
  • 4 Teaspoon(s) Iridescent Super Sparkle Glitter
  • 1 Piece(s) Pumpkin (24 Mini) Silicone Mold

Equipment

  •  Cookie Sheet
  •  Large Mixing Bowl - 1
  •  Measuring Cups/Spoons
  •  Small Mixing Bowls - 4

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together well 1 1/2 cups of White Kaolin Clay and 1 1/2 cups of Bubble Hardener.
  3. Measure out 3/4 cup of mixture and add to 4 smaller mixing bowls.
  4. Add 3 Tablespoons of color and 1 teaspoon of Iridescent Super Sparkle to each bowl  and mix together until color is evenly mixed throughout. (Place your mold on a cookie sheet before proceeding to the next step.)
  5. Add 1/3 cup of warm water to the first bowl and mix thoroughly. Try to remove any clumps before pouring into the mold.
  6. Fill the mold cavities with the 1st color of chalk.
  7. Repeat Step 4 with the other 3 colors. Place the filled mold in an area where it will not be disturbed. Product will need to set for 3-5 days until it has hardened.
  8. You do not want to unmold your product until it is completely dry and starts to pull away from the sides. This will help avoid any cracking in your chalk. Even though the chalk is thick, it is delicate and can break or crumble so unmold each piece individually.
  9. TO USE: Can be used as hair chalk or sidewalk chalk. You may dampen the hair before applying it or just use it on dry hair. Hairspray and an old t-shirt is recommended when applying. It is a dusty product so the hairspray will hold it into the hair until you shampoo.

INCI Ingredient Label: Potassium Bitartrate, Kaolin, Water, Bis(Glycidoxyphenyl)propane/Bisaminomethylnorbornane copolymer Aluminum Hydroxide, Red 28, Red 22, Violet 2 EXT, Yellow 10.
