Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Using a soap slicer, cut clear soap into 1-2 inch pieces. The soap slicer is dull and perfect for this project. Do not use a knife as it is very sharp and the soap is slippery. The knife could slip causing injury.
  3. Weigh 8 ounces of clear soap and place in a clear glass microwave safe container. Melt for 30 seconds on high and color with black color. Pour into silicone tray mold and set aside.
  4. Weigh 8 ounces of clear soap and place in double boiler. Melt until liquid. Remove from heat. Add 1/4 oz of fragrance and mix well.
  5. Add blue and yellow color. Mix well. Final color will be a beautiful clear green. Add a small slice of white soap. This will cloud the green soap while allowing for a good bright color.
  6. Pour into loaf mold. Spritz with rubbing alcohol to pop surface bubbles. Set aside.
  7. When black soap has hardened, remove from mold and chop into small chunks. These will represent the watermelon seeds. Set aside.
  8. Melt 4 oz of white soap in microwave. Fragrance with 1 teaspoon of fragrance.
  9. Once green soap is firm to touch (it may still be slightly warm), fine mist spray with a heavy layer of rubbing alcohol.
  10. When the white soap has reached 125º F you can safely pour the white soap. Using an upside down spoon, pour the white soap over the green soap. This will disperse the warmer soap and help prevent the top layer from breaking into the bottom layer. Move the spoon and soap as you pour.
  11. Weigh 22 ounces of clear soap. Melt in double boiler. Once liquid remove from the heat. Add 1 1/2 Tablespoons of fragrance. Mix well. Add both red colors. Mix well.
  12. Cover soap container with plastic wrap. This will prevent the soap from forming a skin on the top while it cools.
  13. Once the red soap reaches 125º F, the white soap should be firm in the mold. Heavily fine mist spray the white layer. Using the same upside down spoon technique, pour the red soap into the mold.
  14. Heavily fine mist spray the black chunks with rubbing alcohol. Drop them into the soap so they settle throughout the loaf.
  15. Spritz the top of the loaf with rubbing alcohol. This will pop the surface bubbles.
  16. Allow the soap to return to room temperature (about 2 hours). You may unmold and slice with a soap cutter and soap mitre box.
  17. The soap is ready to use after unmolding. If you plan to sell your soap, wrap it immediately. Options are plastic wrap, shrink wrap or cello bags. Proper packaging keeps the fragrance strong. Don't forget to label the soap to complete the package. Label according to FDA cosmetic label guidelines.
