This "dust" is a dry bath fizzie crumble that is sure to get any child excited about bath time.

Project Level: Easy
Estimated Time: 1 Hour
Yield: 13 - 1.75 oz. bags

Ingredients

  • 16 Ounce(s) Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
  • 8 Ounce(s) Citric Acid Powder
  • 2 Ounce(s) White Kaolin Clay
  • 2 Ounce(s) Bubble Up
  • 18 ml(s) Bubble Gum Fragrance Oil 107
  • 1/4 Teaspoon(s) Matte Woodland Green Pigment Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon(s) Matte Orchid Ultramarine Powder
  • 13 Piece(s) Clear Poly - Zip Close Bags 4 x 4
  • 1 Piece(s) Scoop - 0.15 ml (Micro Size)

Equipment

  •1 Piece(s) Droppers - Plastic
  •1 Piece(s) Straight Soap Cutter
  •  Fine Mesh Strainer
  •  Large Cookie Sheets - 2
  •  Large Glass Mixing Bowls
  •  Measuring Spoons
  •  Wire Whisk

Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Weigh or measure your baking soda, citric acid and kaolin clay and place in one large bowl.
  3. Sift your dry mix through the fine mesh strainer a few times to remove any large clumps of either baking soda or citric acid.
  4. Divide your dry mix evenly between your two bowls (our test batch weighed 26 oz. total so each half batch weighed 13 oz.)
  5. GREEN: Add 1/4 tsp. Matte Woodland Green Pigment and whisk to mix.
  6. Add 9ml. fragrance and 2 Tablespoons Bubble Up to bowl and whisk to blend. (This mix gets foamy very quickly so we found that using gloves and mixing by hand worked the best.)
  7. Spread the Green mix onto a cookie sheet and spread out evenly. Set aside to harden for 12-24 hours. *Note: the mix will be soft and will foam up to twice its size when drying. The mix will deflate when completely dry.
  8. PURPLE: Add 1/2 tsp. Matte Orchid Ultramarine Powder and whisk to mix.
  9. Add 9 ml fragrance and 2 Tablespoons Bubble Up to the bowl and whisk to blend. (This mix gets foamy very quickly so we found that using gloves and mixing by hand worked the best.)
  10. Spread the Purple mix onto a cookie sheet and spread out evenly. Set aside to harden for 12-24 hours. *Note: the mix will be soft and will foam up to twice its size when drying. The mix will deflate when completely dry
  11. After 12-24 hours, remove the dust from the cookie sheets and place in separate bowls. We used the Straight Soap Cutter to remove the hardened foam from the sheets. You can break up any larger pieces by hand or chop them using the straight soap cutter.
  12. We packaged ours by alternately layering the colors one tablespoon at a time with 6 tablespoons per bag.
  13. We have included a link to a cute label we madeto dress up this product:     http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/pdfs/labels/ZOMBIE-DUST-LABELS.pdf

INCI Ingredient Label: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Kaolin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance, Chromium Oxide, Ultramarines.

"This says the product will make 13 3oz. Bags. However, the download printable label say 1.75 oz. so how much do you really end up with when finished? 13 3 oz bags? In which case the label is wrong. Or 13 1.75 oz bags? Thanks in advance."

"I'm confused. It says " the mix will be soft and will foam up to twice its size when drying. The mix will deflate when completely dry." Does the foaming come from water? Is it an early reaction in the bath fizz? Did a specific ingredient cause this to happen?"
