INCI Ingredient Label: Olive Oil, Water, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Palm Oil, Fragrance, Castor Oil, Shea Butter, Bis(Glycidoxyphenyl)propane/Bisaminomethylnorbornane copolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Ultramarine Blue, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide.

Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: This project and these instructions have been written for someone who has experience making soap and knows the potential dangers due to working with sodium hydroxide. It will not outline all safety methods of working with dangerous chemicals, it is simply a soap recipe for advanced soapmakers.
  2. Put on your protective gear. This is very important since you will be working with an extremely caustic base that can and will burn you if you touch it. Noxious fumes are also released from the exothermic reaction that occurs when you mix the sodium hydroxide with water. 
  3. Wearing a face mask, prepare the lye solution by weighing the water and lye in two separate containers. Pour the lye into the water, carefully mix in a well-ventilated area and set aside to cool while you prepare your oils.
  4. Leave the vicinity quickly after stirring the sodium hydroxide into the water if mixing in a small area. If you get any lye on your skin just wash it off quickly with copious amounts of cool water.
  5. Measure the oils and butters and melt in the microwave.
  6. Add 1 tsp. of neon blue powder to a funnel pitcher. Repeat with the cobalt blue and yellow in two separate pitchers. To the 4th pitcher add 1 tbsp. of white. Pour a small amount of melted oil/butter mixture into each pitcher and blend powders with a mini-mixer. 
  7. When oils and lye water mixture are around 100°F,  pour lye water into the oils and butters and start to stick blend. 
  8. At light trace, add 3.13 oz. of Blue Mahoe Fragrance Oil and blend by hand,
  9. Pour batter evenly into the 4 funnel pitchers and stick blend to mix in the color.
  10. Starting in two opposite corners of the mold, begin pouring small amounts of soap batter, alternating colors to your preference. Pour one color, pour another onto the top of the first color pushing the first color out. Each color added will push the bottom colors out more. 
  11. When the mold is approximately half full, start repeating the technique on the opposite corners of the mold or whever you feel it is aesthetically pleasing. Repeat until all soap batter is poured into the mold.
  12. Using a skewer or chopstick, swirl the top of the soap. We only inserted the skewer into the top layer of soap, not down to the bottom of the mold. We followed a back-and-forth pattern but you may swirl however you like.
  13. Insulate the mold and allow to set at least 24 hours or longer until soap is firm enough to unmold and cut.
  14. Let soap cure 4-6 weeks.
  15. Package and label accordingly.
