Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Using a soap slicer, cut clear soap into 1-2 inch pieces. The soap slicer is dull and perfect for this project. Do not use a knife as it is very sharp and the soap is slippery. The knife could slip causing injury.
  3. Using 4 plastic beakers and the microwave, melt 1 oz. white soap base in each. Add 1/4 of a color cube and mix until melted.
  4. Use a dropper to fill the outlines of the basket and/or eggs with colored soap. You may need to remelt the soap if it hardens too quickly. You can reheat this beaker directly in the microwave for 5 seconds at a time. Have fun, be creavitve. Check out our picture for ideas.
  5. On stove top, melt 1 pound of soap in a double boiler (the double boiler prevents burning). If you want to use a pyrex cup and microwave, that will also work to melt the soap.
  6. Add 1/2 oz of fragrance to the 1 pound of soap. Mix well.
  7. Add 1 cube of color to the soap. Mix very, very well.
  8. Apply a fine mist spray of rubbing alcohol to the white soap outline (in the mold). This step will prevent the outline from falling off the soap during the unmolding process.
  9. When colored soap cools to 130º F, it is ready to pour over the designs you used the dropper to make.
  10. Lightly mist the designs in the mold and slowly pour the colored soap. Lightly spritz the top of soap with rubbing alcohol. This will cause any bubbles to pop and give your soap a shiny surface.
  11. Repeat process with additional soap using different color combinations!
  12. When the soap is completely firm and has returned to room temperature, unmold. Place in cello bags and tie with the ribbon. Curling the ribbon makes a nice presentation.
  13. The soap is ready to use after unmolding. If you plan to sell your soap, wrap it immediately. Options are plastic wrap, shrink wrap or cello bags. Proper packaging keeps the fragrance strong. Don't forget to label the soap to complete the package. Label according to FDA cosmetic label guidelines.
