Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Using a soap slicer, cut clear soap into 1-2 inch pieces. The soap slicer is dull and perfect for this project. Do not use a knife as it is very sharp and the soap is slippery. The knife could slip causing injury.
  3. Using the microwave, melt 2 oz of white soap in the plastic beaker.
  4. Pour white soap evenly into each of the mold cavities. Ideally there is 1/4" of soap in the bottom of each mold cavity. Depending on how deep you want the white layer of soap, you may need to melt additional soap.
  5. Melt the clear soap in a double boiler (the double boiler prevents burning).
  6. Once the clear soap is liquid, add fragrance oil and blue color. Stir thoroughly. Allow to cool to 130º F.
  7. Using a cheese grater, grate 2 ounces of white soap and set aside.
  8. When soap has cooled to 130ºF. Spritz the white soap (in mold) with a fine mist of rubbing alcohol. Carefully ladel blue soap into mold. Do not pour mold completely full. Leave 1/4" of space from top of mold.
  9. Fine mist spray the blue soap in the mold. Drop the grated soap into mold and set th duck deep into the top of the mold.
  10. Lightly sprinkle glitter on top of soap shavings.
  11. Allow soap to naturally re-harden.
  12. To un-mold, gently push on silicone mold and soap will come right out. Do not pull on duck as it may dislodge.
  13. The soap is ready to use after unmolding. If you plan to sell your soap, wrap it immediately. Options are plastic wrap, shrink wrap or cello bags. Proper packaging keeps the fragrance strong. Don't forget to label the soap to complete the package. Label according to FDA cosmetic label guidelines.
