Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Lay out 10 round soap cups on counter so they are ready to be filled.
  3. Weigh 10.5 oz. of oatmeal soap. Cut into chunks and place in glass measuring cup.
  4. Heat soap in short increments until it has completely melted. Do not boil.
  5. Pour about 1/4 inch of soap into each soap cup. Let harden.
  6. Weigh 30 oz. of clear soap base and cut into chunks. Heat in microwave until soap has completely melted. Remove and stir to melt any small unmelted pieces of soap.
  7. Add 1/2 oz (1 Tablespoon or 30 ml) of fragrance. Stir gently so you do not create bubbles.
  8. Spritz top of oatmeal soap in each cup with rubbing alcohol. This will help soap stick together once it is unmolded.
  9. Checking that temperature of soap is around 125° F, carefully pour clear soap over top of oatmeal, leaving about 1/4 inch from top.
  10. Taking the first fish, place into cup positioning close to the edge. This makes it easy to see from the outside of the cup. Hold fish in place by the tail until it is able to stand straight up by itself.
  11. Continue with the rest of the 10 soap cups. If any cups have developed a soap "skin", simply remove this and add back into the melted cup of soap.
  12. With remaining soap in glass measuring cup, remelt for a few seconds in microwave. Spritz top of each soap cup and top off the soap cups with remaining soap. Spritz again to release air bubbles.
  13. Repeat above steps 2-11 with next 10 soap cups.
  14. Once all 30 cups have been made and soap has hardened, place each cup into a cello bag. Tie with green and orange curling ribbon. Label according to FDA guidelines.
