Recipe Directions

  1. NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron.
  2. Remove 2 lb block of soap from plastic tray. Cut off 2 oz. and set aside. This will be used to pour first layer of white soap.
  3. Using a soap slicer, cut remaining soap into 1-2 inch pieces. The soap slicer is dull and perfect for this project. Place in large glass measuring cup and set aside.
  4. Place 2 oz piece of soap into beaker. Place in microwave and heat for about 20 seconds or until melted.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of ultra white sparkle powder and mix well.
  6. Carefully drizzle white colored soap into bottom of snowflake cavity. The soap will flow into the snowflake crevices. Don't cover the entire bottom. You want to see the blue soap behind the white when you unmold.
  7. In small container, pour 1 oz. of glycerin. Add about 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of blue pigment powder. Mix well. A frother or WSP mini-mixer works well for this.
  8. Cut up remainder of clear soap and place in glass measuring cup.
  9. Place clear soap into microwave and heat until melted. DO NOT BOIL. If there are chunks that are not completely dissolved, gently stir soap until they are melted in.
  10. Once soap is melted, add blue coloring until desired shade is achieved. Mix well.
  11. Measure 30 ml or 1 oz. of fragrance and add to the melted blue soap. Mix well.
  12. Add 1 teaspoon of ultra sparkle white mica powder and mix well.
  13. Spritz alcohol onto white soap in each mold cavity. This will help the white soap stick to the blue once it is unmolded.
  14. Check soap temperature so it is no hotter than 130 degrees. If it is too hot, it will melt the first layer you poured. Pouring at a lower temperature will also help suspend the mica throughout the bar
  15. Carefully pour the soap into mold. Using a ladel will help keep your work area clean.
  16. Lightly mist the top of the melted soap with rubbing alcohol. This will cause any bubbles to pop and give your soap a shiny surface.
  17. The easiest way to unmold soap is to place it in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Remove from freezer and rest for 3-5 minutes. The mold expands as it warms and helps the soap slide out. Turn the mold upside down. Press very lightly if soap does not slide out.
  18. Once you have unmolded first set of soap bars, continue with above steps until all soap has been used.
  19. The soap is ready to use after unmolding. If you plan to sell your soap, wrap it immediately. Options are plastic wrap, shrink wrap or cello bags. Proper packaging keeps the fragrance strong. Don't forget to label the soap to complete the package. Label according to FDA cosmetic label guidelines.
