Product Spotlight: Poppy Seeds

poppy seeds | exfoliant, cosmetic additive

Poppy seeds provide mild exfoliation properties and color variation in products. About 3,000 seeds make up a gram and it takes between 1 and 2 million seeds to make a pound. When ingested, poppy seeds can give a false positive on drug tests. Caution is advised if exporting cosmetics with poppy seeds.

Question: Is the size and texture of poppy seeds safe to use in face scrubs?

Answer: The large particle size and mild exfoliant properties of poppy seeds are best suited for body scrubs. They are not recommended for the face..

Product Spotlight: Lemon Powder

lemon powder | cosmetic additive

Lemon is a natural astringent, antiseptic, and bactericide. It is thought to help clear the complexion and to smooth out broken capillaries, while clearing greasy and oily skin with pimples and acne. Produces a natural orange to yellow color.

Question: Does the lemon powder work well in bath salts to help color the salts naturally and add smell?

Answer: The lemon powder is primarily used for the added benefits of being a natural astringent, antiseptic, and bactericide. While it will produce a natural orange to yellow color, it would probably be best to add an additional colorant and FO or EO to achieve a stronger color and scent..
