RETAIN YOUR CONNECTION
ONLY WITH ITEMS, ACTIVITES, AND PEOPLE WHO BRING JOY INTO YOUR LIFE.
_
Though you may associate the minimalist movement with tiny houses, frugality, and stark closets, the philosophy behind minimalism isn’t to shed every tangible belonging you own. Rather, it’s to retain your connection only with items, activities, and people who bring joy to your life. In tandem, you’ll eliminate those that drain or distract your energy.
Those principles can be especially useful to small business owners, whether you’re selecting which product lines will yield the biggest return on your investment of time and energy, feeling pressured to grow, or nd that the bulk of your work is dedicated to tasks you didn’t expect to handle when you decided to be your own boss.
Here are four ways you can use a minimalist approach to build a small handmade business that’s a joy to operate each day.
1. Make objective business decisions based on a mission.
A business mission statement tells the world what your business does, the values it embodies, and why it exists—but it can also help you take a minimalist approach to your business. Before you consider a new business opportunity, or source products to accommodate the latest trend, compare whether it aligns to your mission statement. If it doesn’t, resist the urge to veer from your core purpose.
