“Practicing gratitude for what already exists in your life will bring you greater joy, and attract more of it.”
4. Take care of our planet.
Minimalists understand the value of preserving the earth in a multitude of ways, like doing their share to control pollution. For example: one study in 2015 estimated that around eight million metric tons of our plastic waste enter the oceans from land each year, causing great endangerment to birds and marine mammals. Pollution is no longer a problem; it’s an epidemic. We can all do our part by investing in refillable water vessels and recycling papers and plastics. As a bonus, you’ll save lots of money!
5. Understand what brings true happiness.
As you cut down on excessive spending, consider what’s truly important. What would leave you feeling empty or incomplete if it no longer existed for you? Friendships, family, financial freedom, time in nature, spirituality, contribution, hobbies, and helping others are some of the values I hear most often. Practicing gratitude for what already exists in your life will bring you greater joy, and attract more of it. Spend time deepening relationships, identifying and living by your values, taking care of yourself physically, spiritually, and emotionally, and bringing more of what you love into your life. This is what really increases the happiness factor.
