15% coconut 76, 10% shea butter, 5% castor. No water discount.

"I am going to use this fragrance oil soon. The recommended usage rate is 6%...I know some soapmakers use more than that for various reasons. Is that safe to do and would it do any harm to go a little over the amount suggested? Thanks you."

I sometimes go overboard with my scents , I have never had any problems with too much before . Besides some saying the scents are " too strong " , or some people are sensitive to scents and may get a headache from it .

Usage percentage rates are NOT recommendations, they are restrictions placed for safety standards. To exceed these safety guidelines could result in potential health risks. For this particular fragrance used in soap, it is not to exceed 4.5% To go beyond these restrictions is considered unsafe business practice.

Staff Answer Exceeding the use rate opens you up to significant liabilities and consumer lawsuits if your user has a negative outcome from using your products. Do not go over the IFRA level. You want to make sure your products will remain skin safe.

I think you'll find that for most oils thus is a very strong scent. I would start out at 3% and go from there keeping I mind that scent is sometimes stronger after the soap has cooled.

I do not go over the IFRA level if its for selling a product to a consumer, as you are walking into liability issues. You always want to make sure your products will remain safe for your consumer.

Never go over IFRA maximums. Besides opening yourself up to liability lawsuits, the m&p soap base (and other mediums) has been created to handle certain amounts, and may not perform properly.

I find myself using significantly less than the usage rate. The smell is pretty strong when I use way less than the maximum. Start with about half of that amount and see how you like it.

If 6% is not enough to scent your soap, you may have other issues such as a poor quality/expired scent oil or adding at far too hot of a temp. I rarely use even 5%.

"Red Hot!"

COMMENTS: This fragrance smells like red hots or atomic fireballs. I don't smell cinnamon sticks or cinnamon powder. I smell the candy cinnamon. I'm rating it as "very good" because it is in fact a strong cinnamon scent. I was hoping for a more earthy scent. It gave the massage oil a sweet and spicy smell. I didn't notice any change in color in my melt and pour soaps.
