"Does the Cetearyl Alcohol in this E-Wax contain any soy? I know Cetearyl Alcohol can come naturally from soy oil or other vegetable oils. I have a customer that is allergic to soy and wants to know if they can use my products which I use this Emulsifying Wax. "

"Hi, when I was working on my lotion recipe, the lotion wasn’t coming together at first. So I thought by melting more emulsifying wax (traditional) it would bind it more because the lotion was literally separating. But then things did begin to combine but by then I already melted the additional wax but no longer needed it. Can I reuse this wax for another purpose or should I just discard it. Thanks "

"Have you recently reformulated this product? I've been using it for quite some time now and the size of the beads seems to be a lot smaller than the ones that I have always had in the past. I would say the new beads are about 1/3 of the size of the ones I am used to."

Staff Answer This may harden the cream too much. You might try using Bubble Cake Hardener (Cream of Tartar) or Smooth & Creamy Lotion Bar Additive. This is something you will certainly need to test and add small amounts at a time (1-2%) in your recipe.

Staff Answer This wax has a melting point of 130°F. The Safety Data Sheet lists a flash point of 392°F. We are not sure what overheating would be but heating to 250°F, for instance, should not have any effect on the wax.

Staff Answer We are not exactly sure what type of products you want to make. Not all recipes with emulsifying wax contain water. We would recommend finding a similar product of what you are looking to make and seeing what the ingredients are. Coming up with a new product is a lot of trial and error until you come up with just the right amount of ingredients.

Staff Answer This would not work to harden melt and pour soap. We recommend adding 1 tablespoon per pound of Stearic Acid which will harden a soap base. In a clear base, this may cloud the soap.

The e-wax was added at about 12.5% but it just depends on what ingredients are in your recipe as to how much you will need. You will ultimately need to make a few test batches to get the results you are looking for.

We have not tested Emulsifying Wax - Traditional in bath bombs. However, if you view the product reviews, we have had clients use this product in fizzies and they identified that "it causes foaming in bath bombs rather than fizzing".

Staff Answer Beeswax is considered to be an emulsifier. It is a harder wax than other emulsifiers though so the exchange rate may vary depending on the application. We recommend testing all substitutions in a small batch before making a larger batch for retail. You alone are responsible for product and recipe testing to ensure compatibility and safety.

Beeswax is a great thickener, it's an emulsifier only if used with borax & if you're using less water than oil. It'll provide "mechanical" emulsification that'll slowly separate; like if you took a blender to your Italian dressing to blend it completely... BUT the microscopic beads of oil and water will slowly combine into bigger ones till it completely separates. An emulsifying wax spaces itself around the beads of oil/water like the dimples on a golf ball, stopping that from happening.

Staff Answer Yes you can. The preservative you use will depend on your ration of water to oil/butter/wax. If your recipe has less than 25% oils then I would recommend Germaben II E but if your recipe has more than 25% oils I would recommend Germaben II.

In my experience, emulsifying wax is used for lotion making. Lip balm uses a hard wax like bees wax or candillilla wax.

Emulsifying wax is used to "marry" the oils and water component for making a lotion. The wax is melted along with the oils and water is added to it. The proportions and temperature are crucial. It would be prudent to follow a published recipe successfully before experimenting on your own.

In my experience it would make a very heavy feeling hair product...if that's what your going for it would emulsify you oils and water, but the conditioning emulsifier would probably be a better choice for hair

"The oils/butters in my body butters have a tendency to slightly separate over time (I end up with a little bit of runny oil at the bottom of the jar), would this product keep the consistency together yet keep it light a fluffy? If not, what product do you recommend?"

Staff Answer NF refers to National Formulary of US Pharmacopeia. These standards provide for a high quality, consistent wax. Our Emulsifying waxes have not undergone this testing and therefore is not advertised as NF.

The most common wax I've seen is beeswax but candellia wax is supposed to be superb for the balms and bars!

Emulsifying Wax, aka "Ewax", is designed specifically to emulsify water + oils to make lotion, creams, etc. Since lotion bars, lipstick and lip balms are anhydrous (do not contain water) Ewax is not a good choice for making those products.

I like to add it to salt and sugar scrubs. It helps them not to be so greasy on your skin or shower/tub floor, and I feel like it helps the oil to penetrate your skin better. You could make a bunch of really inexpensive scrubs for the holidays. Usually canola oil is really cheap and so is regular white sugar. Will make a great homemade gift.

The wax is NOT petroleum based. It is a vegetable based wax.
