Directions:

DIRECTIONS: Slowly stir melted product into the oil portion of your formulation. Common use levels are lip products 5-100%, cold process soap 3-6%, lotions and creams 3-5%. Can be applied directly to the skin.

TIPS: The average melting point for the butter is 100°F. Butters provide moisturizing properties to products. To minimize greasy after feel we recommend blending with 1-3% cornstarch or isopropyl myristate. Test your final product to insure optimal performance.

STORAGE: Store in an airtight, cool, dark location. When stored properly, best used within 1 year from date of purchase.

CAUTION: For external use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

When I first receive an order of Shea, I find it less messy & easier to work with if I melt everything completely down, pour it into a large plastic storage container, and then allow it to harden back up in the container. Would love to be able to be a little lazy & skip my usual step of having to transfer everything to my crock pot first though! I'm curious... Is the bag the Shea comes in microwave safe? Thank you!!"

"I'm making just a basic butter with my shae, but it's super sticky (before adding anything). I added slick fix, goats milk powder, olive oil, and palm oil per my recipe, and it's still super sticky. What can I do to fix that, or can it be fixed? Used 16oz shae, 2T slick fix, 2T goats milk, 2T palm oil, 1T olive oil so far."

Staff Answer The average melt point for the High Melt Shea butter is 104-114°F. The average melt point for the Ultra Refined Shea and the Natural Shea is 90°F. Therefore the High Melt Shea Butter has a higher melt point and will remain more solid at room temperature.

Melt point is affected by the density of the oils. Unrefined means the oil has been removed in its natural state (usually cold pressed/expeller pressed). Refined usually involves heat, but can vary.

I love to use the high melt point shea butter in lip balms and lotion bars. When I was using regular shea, my balms and lotion bars would get grainy really easily, especially if they got too warm in a pocket or shipping. Since I started using the high melt point shea, I have no more problems with them getting grainy anymore, the products stay nice and smooth!!

"It is my understanding that natural unrefined shea butter has not been heated. But when I read about shea butter that has a grainy feel to it is because it has been heated. So has the natural unrefined shea butter you sell been processed in any way that requires heat. Heat would cause the shea to lose some of its nutrients."

Thank you for your inquiry. We do not actively melt any of our butters, however based on the natural temperature the consistency does change which may result in natural melting. We apologize for the misinformation, but the 'spots' identified on the previous question are typically due to the butter melting and then cooling - again this is from the natural temperature fluctuation in our warehouse.

The natural shea butter is a great moisturizer. I use it on my hair, face, and feet. It has somewhat a nutty smell. It is also a very light yellow color.

"The real deal!"

COMMENTS: This shea butter is the real deal. It's been a while since I bought shea, and I was hesitant about buying the unprocessed because of some comments about the smell. But I wanted the unsaponifiables and great skin feel of the natural shea. This is exactly what you want in natural shea butter! It has a subtle smoky scent and a slight yellow color. Applied it straight to my hands and they still feel amazing, even after washing them a few times. Can't wait to soap with it. Winter is coming. Stock up now, folks!

"A quality butter but"

COMMENTS: This has, it's a good butter with a quality soft skin feel if used neat, but the SCENT is very...distinct. I don't like it all personally. I don't think that it's rancid, but it is a natural product and the smell is like burned sour peanut. Im still smelling it an hour later so while the product is very nice I recommend a refined or deodorized version if you have other scents in your product you don't want messed with. 2 oz. is a decent test size with a very reasonable price, the package being about the size of a flatter capri-sun though not 'full' just enough to experiment with.

COMMENTS: As with all of the products we receive, this product comes packaged well for shipping so that there is no package breakage and the full product is in tact. This is definitely natural shea butter as is evidenced by the unique smell when opening. It is very thick and true to its natural form. This makes it difficult to separate but is much better to handle using gloves. The product works very well in our lip balms and salves.

COMMENTS: When I received package it was like a bigger bock of shae butter had been sliced or broken down, a better quality than what I was getting. It was easier to get out of bag. The other looked like it was softened then poured into large bag inserted into large reclosable bag. The Crafters Choice just looked cleaner. They both did same thing but, seemed Crafters Choice was easier to work with.

Quality ingredients that I will continue to use in my products. The only thing I might change is that I would like it packaged in a jar not bag. But it's not a huge issue as its so hot where I live it comes liquid when delivered and I immediately pour into a Mason jar before it solidifies. Easy fix.

COMMENTS: Since I have started using the Shea butter in my body scrubs it has become such a wonderful product. I love how it keeps the scrubs firm but also very very moisturizing. I had good reviews with my sugar scrubs prior to use of this product and now I get great reviews. People have told me that the scrubs have worked wonders for them. This is an easy product to work with, it does melt at higher temperatures So I have had to work with it a little but overall it is a great and it moisturizes very well. The smell can be a little strong and I have had to work with my essential oil‘s in pairing to make a very pleasing scent. I do plan on purchasing more of this in the future!

COMMENTS: I used this product in making baking soda free deodorant. I happen to like the smell of natural Shea, so that was not an issue for me. The product leaves skin super soft and blends great with other ingredients. The one thing I disliked was the packaging. Shea butter is very sticky. I found it difficult to efficiently use the entire bag without cutting it open and scraping it out with a spatula. Messy! Otherwise, great product. I will be purchasing again.

COMMENTS: This was a very good product. I love being able to purchase the amounts needed and at very reasonable prices. This is always my go to site whenever I need containers or any of my raw ingredients. I never worry that the quality of the product will be poor (as compared to some sites where you can find cheap prices due to poor quality ingredients). When it comes to Shea butter, in general not brand specific, it generally comes packaged in a resealable bag (which is good for longer shelf life) but Shea buttet is quite soft and I always end up with it on my hands and smashed in the bag,I'm not a fan of the smell so I try to keep it off my hands. Buy I am always looking for any ideas or new ways of handling Shea butter to not always get it on me.

COMMENTS: I use Shea in every single one of my CP recipes, and I try to make at least 1 batch per day, so as you can imagine, I go through a lot of Shea! In the past, purchasing Shea online was always a gamble, and true to Forrest Gump's famous words, I never knew what I was gonna get! Not only was I massively (& unknowingly) overpaying, but sometimes I'd get Shea that was rancid. Other times I'd get Shea that contained dead bugs, human hair, rocks, dirt, twigs & all sorts of organic debris in it that I would have to melt completely down & painstakingly clean by straining it multiple times before I could even use it! It was a royal pain, and nothing was consistent- ugh! But the wonderful world of WSP changed all that for me! Not only is this excellent quality Shea, but per pound, I am paying CONSIDERABLY less purchasing through WSP for Shea that DOESN'T have dead bugs, hair & dirt in it!! It's a win-win, and I couldn't be happier! This Shea performs beautifully in my CP soaps & melts down like a dream! AND UPS actually did me a favor!! When my Shea arrived, it had fully melted in the bag (thanks to being in the back of a hot truck all day), so I was easily able to pour it out from the bag into a plastic container that makes it easier for me to store, & less messy for me to measure out from. Popped that baby in the fridge for an hour, and it was back to being nice, solid & smooth! And even though it had melted in the back of the UPS truck, I was impressed that NONE of it leaked from the bag onto my other purchases! So a big "THANK YOU" from me to WSP for providing EXCELLENT quality Shea, at a phenomenal price & is packaged well to boot! Was so happy with it when it arrived that I immediately ordered another 5lbs! I have 3 words when it comes to this Shea: Keep it coming!! Lol!

COMMENTS: I love this Shea Butter! I've been rolling the dice and ordering from Amazon for quite some time. There's tremendous peace of mind ordering instead from WSP, knowing I'm going to get a clean and consistent product. The price was great and the butter was exactly what I expected. Any natural Shea will have an odor but it's not unpleasant and I actually quite like it. This does come packaged in a tall, resealable plastic bag....this is the only thing I don't love about this particular butter. I use 3 solid oils in my soaps and appreciate when they're packaged in such a way to allow me to make minimal mess while measuring. Once you start working your way into this bag you have to reach all the way in to scoop. The thick, naturally sticky texture of Shea butter made this quite the messy process for me. Wishing it was packaged in a shallow, more-accessible container is my only complaint!

I make a lot of acne products and when i'm making hair conditioners, beard balms, face lotions or body butters, i usually prefer to add shea butter over any other butter since it scores a 0 out of 5 on the non-comedogenic list. Butters like coconut and cocoa butter, though i love them because of the scents or how soft they make your skin/hair feel, they score pretty high on this list so they can clogg pores easily. So when you're dealing with customers who may have acne problems or large pores, shea butter is one of the best butter choices to go with. To minimize the greasy feel shea might have, i just add some tapioca starch, corn starch, arrowroot or even Slick Fix - Oil Locking Powder

COMMENTS: Love this Shea! Have been using the Ultra Refined Shea which is fantastic but tried the natural again and we love it too. It did change the texture of our regular body butter recipe a bit so that it required more powdered ingredients as the shea butter seems creamier almost want to say oilier but it is not oily just creamier than the Ultra Refined which seems harder/dryer. Sorry if I'm not describing this well. We love both of these Sheas Butters and highly recommend them both. Our Body Butters came out so creamy and luscious, customers bought us out - just a really great shea butter. Loving the resealable bags - so easy to store and use and reseal. Will order again - many times. Thanks!

COMMENTS: This is a wonderful natural product to make my whipped body butters. My body butter has a bit of grainy texture that melts quickly into the skin. I do not melt any of the ingredients I use and whip them until the product resembles whipped cream. It goes on light with a little bit of texture. My customers love it. I have quickly gone thru 5 lbs of this stuff. It does have a smell but you expect that with a more natural product. If you want one without the smell - go with the refined. Love it!

COMMENTS: Nice product for both my cold process soap and my melt and pour butter bars. Putting such a sticky product in a tall bag doesn't work. It is okay for the refined Shea butter but a mess with the unrefined that is much stickier. A pail might be a better choice.

I purchased this to make soaps with but after putting it on my skin (I have eczema) and saw how well it healed and moisturised my hands I'll never use anything else! COMMENTS: I had a wedding order and needed to do some whipped shea body butters. The natural shea butter was super easy to use and performed completely as expected. It whipped up easily and my scent, vitamin E and other additives incorporated quickly. I was able to pipe it into the jars with ease and the customer got great reviews from her bridal party. COMMENTS: The shea butter itself is great, works very well in my beard balms and smells good even on its own. However it cmes in a plastic resealable bag that makes it a chore to measureout, especially towards the bottom of the bag. I get it all over my hand and leave a lot of produc in the bag. I would like it much better in a small plastic tub like margarin or something.

COMMENTS: I accidentally bought this instead of refined and was worried that I had really messed up and now had 5lbs of a super smelly butter.. nope! It does have a very nice smell, but I haven't had it over power anything yet! It's a lot softer then refined and a slight yellow in color.. but hasn't changed my soaps colors at all! Smell doesn't come through at all.

COMMENTS: Soft and creamy, melts good, adds a great moisturizer to my soap. Only problem I have is not with the product itself but with the packaging method. The bags are a pain in the butt to scoop out and of course it sticks to the sides so I have to cut the bag down the side and empty the whole bag into another container... very messy but I don't waste what I get on me, just rub it in.

COMMENTS: Nice product. Works great. Just don't like the smell and I love patchouli. And this smell needs a cover sent every time i use it. I'll opt for the refined one next time. But great works great aside for the smell.

COMMENTS: Have used both the Shea Butter natural and mixture of Shea Butter types. Loved both. Butter comes in resealable plastic bag. Different types gave me the ability to learn which I liked working with the best. My favorite though about Shea Butter was taking a long soaking bath using one of my own Bath fizzes. "shea butter dilemma "

COMMENTS: I received my order of Shea butter yesterday, I am very pleased with packaging and products. My Shea butter is great it melts like butter literally! My only issue is that as I began to rub my Shea butter into my skin and make my whipped body butter I was left with little small clumps of Shea butter left behind. I was not very pleased with that considering all that I was pleased with But other than that the Shea butter is great. I contact the company to see if they have any advice to eliminate this problem.

"Just made my masterpiece body butter IN LOVE"

COMMENTS: I bought the shea butter natural to make a simple all natural moisturizer. I found a recipe which called for 1.25 ounces of coconut oil to ever 3.5 ounces of shea. So I doubled that in a little pint sized mason jar popped it onto the blender in place of the blending jar (which I never use I always use my mason jars on my blender so much easier) Whipped it up and the simplest best whipped butter I have ever had. I honestly would only put this in 2-4 ounce jars a tiny bit goes a really long way. The only downfall to natural is that you have to use extra smelly goods but hey thats fine with me! I am so proud of myself. I was going to give some out as free samples and gifts but I don't know. I think I am going to keep this for myself

COMMENTS: This is amazing in lotion bars and whipped butters. I even use it plain on my hands and my hair sometimes - it makes your hair really soft if you put just a tiny speck of it on your palms and rub it into wet hair after a shower. It does have a strong nutty, smokey, "fatty" smell to it, but that's to be expected with unrefined shea. I'll probably just buy the refined kind next time.

COMMENTS: I had never smelled pure shea butter before, so I was expecting it to smell like products I've bought with a shea scent. Not the case. It smelled completely different. I can't say that I loved the smell, but I didn't hate it either. It wasn't very strong of a smell, which was nice. I may get the refined in the future, but I do like the natural quality of this. I made some lip balm with it, and was a little worried that it might become grainy as per some complaints I've seen about unrefined shea. I didn't have any problem with that, but I did heat and cool it very slowly, which may have helped. I'm also very happy with the price and will buy again.

However, I still gave it 5 stars because that is my personal preference, and nothing to do with the quality of this product. Natural Shea butter is popular with many people. I am using it mixed with refined Shea Butter for products with Lemongrass, Peppermint and pine, strong fragrances. I will use up what I bought, but I will not re-order.

COMMENTS: I've normally used another brand of shea butter and then ordered some from WSP and definitely prefer the WSP product. While the smell is definitely natural and what I want, the other brand I was using was a bit too much in this regard. COMMENTS: This is raw shea butter!! It has a strong smell that stays in my whipped lotions. I had to recycle my lotion and use it in my HP soap instead. Can use it for SO many different things...wow, I've added small amounts to Melt and Pour soap with no issues, I've used it significantly in Cold Process Soaps, Body Butters and Massage Bars. Great for adding creaminess to CP Soaps, blends beautifully into the skin when using it in Body Butters or Massage Bars. I'm also an LMT, so I use this for certain deep tissue work and even certain modalities (like myofascial release) Can't say enough good things about this Shea Butter! Would be nice to get it in a tub though verses a bag...I always manage to make a mess of it...other than that, LOVE IT!

COMMENTS: I used this as the main ingredient in my lip balms. I used my hand to "cut" the chunks to get the exact weight I needed (in ounces). Immediately when it touched your skin it starts to melt into a liquid oil. I used the extra straight on some dry spots and did a great job at moisturizing.

I wish the 5lb was a bucket so that it was easier to push against the sides to get out, as well as easier to get the last bit out. The Bag works too, although it is a bit harder exp being as tall of a bag as it is and trying to get the last bit out. It is hard to Microwave the bag on low with the size of the bag, but I do love the Shea Butter! I like the added Benefit that it adds to both my lotions and Soap.

Originally from co ops and more recent years from a business that only sells shea butter. I will definitely reorder this one. Even before soaping it I notice the great feel straight up on my skin and the fact that it soaks in easily. I removed a bit and used it throughout the day on my hands. I had given up using straight shea because it always left a greasy film. not so with this one. It has a fresh nutty characteristic odor. I found the price competitive as well.

"Natural Shea Butter Dilemma"

COMMENTS: This was my first time making Body Butter and I decided to order the Natural Shea Butter. In opening the bag for the first time, I noticed a slightly sour smell, which was different from the nutty smell I know natural shea butter to have. I proceeded and made a batch using WSP Mango Papaya FO and it turned out beautifully! It whipped up nicely, I was able to pipe it into my jars easily, and the sour odor was gone! I made another batch a week later and the odor of the Natural Shea Butter from the bag appeared to have gotten worse. I proceeded and used another FO and hoped that the odor in this batch would disappear as it did for my first batch. No such luck! While the Natural Shea Butter in the finished product does not smell as bad as it does directly from its bag, the odor is still slightly present. I even went back and checked the first batch I made and it still smells wonderful! I really want to use the Natural Shea Butter in my Body Butter recipes, but feeling a bit down now regarding the unpleasant odor versus the natural nutty scent I was expecting.

"Smelled like fire or smoke."

COMMENTS: This didn;t work for Me at all. Actually ruined a whole batch of butter. This smelled like smoke right out the bag. I assumed it would die down in the finished product. "Shea Butter "

COMMENTS: I ordered a pound of this shea butter (I assume it's yellow unrefined) to try from this company. It has the characteristic strong smokey, beautiful nutty smell that is indicative of unrefined shea butter. Good price too. What I don't like is how sticky and grainy it is. I am used to thick, creamy unrefined shea. The sticky part isn't a problem for me but the very grainy texture, which can happen as a result of melting and remelting in storage, is. For melting into oils for soap I would purchase it again. For whipping into bath and body products like deodorant and body butters or by itself for skin care I would not purchase it again.

"Shea Butter Review"

COMMENTS: This butter was easy to work with but I do wish that it came in a different type of packaging. The bag made it hard to get all of the butter out and resulted in losing some of the butter that was stuck to the sides of the bag. It would be easier to work with if it came in a plastic tub.

"Great Shea but poor packaging"

COMMENTS: The Shea butter was great but I was not pleased with the bag that it came in. With the summer heat it was quite messy trying to measure out the amounts I needed. I wasted a lot of the butter on my hands and stuck inside to the bag.

"Not sure..."

COMMENTS: I recieved this product, and it was melted. I live in South Fl, so that is expected. BUT, I don't know if maybe it got overheated and went rancid.. the smell is awful. Texture is soft, won't harden up in my butters.. Won't be purchasing again sorry.

If you have never used the natural shea butter before, it does have a nutty odor which some think smells rancid. We can assure you that it is not rancid. Shipping during the summer months will cause the butter to arrive melted and soft. It may need to be placed in the refrigerator to help harden it back up.
