Sodium Lactate is used to harden cold process soap while minimizing shrinkage associated with curing. It is derived from carbohydrate sugars and purified lactic acid specifically for the cosmetic industry. Use Sodium Lactate to make your Cold Process Soap bars hard and smooth. Sodium lactate also makes cold process soap easy to unmold!

Directions:

"I am not clear on how much of the 60% sodium lactate to add. If I have a total batch volume of 1000 ml (1 liter), then to have a final concentation of sodium lactate at 1% that would mean adding 6 ml of sodium lactate, IF the sodium lactate were at a 100% concentration. But since the sodium lactate is at a 60% concentration, does that mean I should add 16.66 ml of 60% sodium lactate?"

"Does this negatively affect some fragrance oils? I have had two 11 lb batches come out EXTREMELY hard and both soaps smell similar, very chemically. I used 1.5 Tablespoons in 180 oz batch, and the two fragrance oils this happened on were Cucumber Melon and Cool Water for Men. I would like to avoid ruining any more batches."

If you use salt, the soap can sweat profusely, especially in humid weather. Also, salt makes the bar look "gritty". I personally think it looks good, but not everyone feels that way. I have tried adding salt to the lye mixture and at trace...it turns out the same. I used 1/4c in 8lbs 8oz oil. I think sodium lactate is the answer if you're not looking for a bar that looks like it has salt in it.

Yes, it is an essential element to true "shaving soaps." Many use the hot process method to create the soaps because the sodium lactate will accelerate trace and can cause seizing during CP.

COMMENTS: I am a hobby CP soapmaker, and I always add sodium lactate to my soap in order to get a harder, longer-lasting bar. WSP's sodium lactate seems to be good quality and is significantly cheaper than the other supplier I had previously ordered it from. I would definitely recommend this product to other soapmakers!

"Sodium Lactate for harder bars and more fluid HP"

COMMENTS: My HP soaps were ugly and crumbly... UNTIL i found Sodium Lactate. 1.5 tsp added to my cooled lye water for a 3# batch is perfect to keep my HP soap liquid enough to get into the mold looking nice. Once cut, the bars harden up nicely and look much better than without the Sodium Lactate.

COMMENTS: I have been using this regulatly in CP soap for the padt year or so. It has made a big difference in how hard my cured soap gets. A little bit (1 teaspoon ppo is all you need) goes a long way. Soap gets harder, lasts longer.

COMMENTS: First of all, the price is simply unbeatable!!! Before a friend of mine referred me to WSP, I was spending close to $8 for an 8oz bottle of SL, and going through it FAST. I could not believe my eyes when I saw WSP's prices!! Sometimes you get what you pay for, but with WSP, that simply isn't the case... WSP has made it possible for me to make soap to my heart's content WITHOUT breaking the bank, and every single item I've ordered thus far has been top notch!
