Staff Answer Our vanilla color stabilizers have been formulated specifically for each product type based on factors like pH, etc. We recommend using the stabilizer for lotions and washes in a lotion base, but if you would still like to use it, we highly recommend making a small test batch.

"Hi, I was using a fragrance oil that had 4% vanilla in it so I used the 2:1 ratio in mixing the fragrance oil to VCS. I noticed the fragrance oil floating on top of the VCS. Is that normal? Are they supposed to mix together? This was my first time using VCS so I’m not sure what’s suppose to happen. Thanks in advance "

Staff Answer Some fragrances do not like to play nice with the stabilizer and will separate. However, once added to a product they blend well and the stabilizer is still able to prevent discoloration.

Staff Answer The vanilla color stabilizers are synthetic. If using a vanilla fragrance in a product that is mainly butters and oils, like a body butter, the product will not discolor. If making a water-based product, you would need the stabilizer. In this case, you would use the stabilizer for lotions and washes.

"Is the measurement for this in liquid oz, or dry weight oz? I'm asking due to confusion. Many recipes say a kitchen scale is needed, so that's why I'm asking, many things are liquid, if liquid would liquid measure work, or kitchen scale only - normally used for dry ingredients. Staff Answer You would only need to add stabilizer for the fragrance that has vanilla. If you are mixing 5 ml each of two fragrances and one fragrance contains 5% vanilla, you would mix the 5 ml fragrance with 2.5 ml stabilizer. To make it easier for yourself, you can mix both fragrances together and add the stabilizer to both. It will not hurt your product to do this.

Staff Answer Yes, it is still safe to use. When the stabilizer gets cold, it can thicken and get clumpy. Simply place the bottle in warm water until it clears then shake the bottle before using.

Staff Answer The amount of Vanilla in your fragrance will determine the amount of Vanilla Stabilizer that you will need. If the fragrance contains less than 10% vanilla you will use a 2:1 ratio of fragrance to vanilla color stabilizer and a 1:1 ratio if it contains over 10%. Also, be aware that you are adding additional liquid to your bath fizzie recipe which may cause a premature chemical reaction.

Staff Answer Without the use of a stabilizer these will darken over time. In the past we tested all three types of stabilizers with bath fizzies to determine which one stood up to the pH level of a bath fizzie and our testes revealed that the Stabilizer for CP soap worked the best. That is why we chose to use the Vanilla Color Stabilizer for CP in this recipe.

Staff Answer Our Vanilla Color Stabilizers have only been tested in MP/CP soaps, lotions and liquid washes. Adding a stabilizer to salts or powdered bath milks may cause a reaction or cause the salts and powders to dissolve creating an undesirable texture. I am afraid that you will need to test this with your formula to ensure compatibility.

" I followed directions but when I mixed the MP stabilizer & the fragrance bubble gum it got cloudy I waited about 3 min. and mixed it into the MP soap and it immediately turned yellow! I have had this happen before and I'm wasting too much soap. What could be the problem?"

Because the specific ingredients are proprietary we are not able to determine the component that is causing the yellowing. I would recommend using a color to mask the yellowing caused by the fragrance blend.

Staff Answer The "learn to use directions" for the Vanilla color stabilizer direct you to use 1 part stabilizer to 2 parts fragrance for fragrances containing 9.9% or less vanilla. This fragrance has an 8.9% vanilla content. Since the recipe calls for 1oz fragrance you would need to use .5oz Vanilla Color Stabilizer to prevent the color change.

Staff Answer The Matte White Powder will whiten your soap initially but it will not prevent the color change that occurs with vanilla fragrances. Without the use of a vanilla color stabilizer your soaps will morph to some shade of tan/brown over time depending on the vanilla content of your fragrance.

Staff Answer Fragrances containing vanilla (vanillin)can brown. This can be a light tan color all the way to a dark brown depending on how much vanilla it contains. You can use the Vanilla Color Stabilizer to prevent any change from occurring.

Vanilla causing your creation to turn brown can happen with even the slightest amount of vanilla. In other words, the content does not have to be a certain amount for it to cause a change in color. BUT, if your FO is more than 10% vanilla content, make sure you're using the vanilla stabilizer at a 1 to 1 ratio. Also, make sure not to let the "stabilized" FO sit around. Use it when it's ready. WSP vanilla color stabilizers are the best!

That depends on how much of a color change bothers you. If I were you I would use vanilla color stabilizer for prevention, or titanium dioxide to lighten up whatever color change may happen without the vanilla color stabilizer.

Yes! I just heat the water in kettle over the stove and pour it into a heat-safe bowl and add the VCS. In no time, it's liquid!

Staff Answer We tested which Stabilizer works best in Bath Fizzies and posted the results on our blog (http://blog.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/2012/08/whats-cookin-in-wsp-kitchen_29.html) We found that the Vanilla Color Stabilizer for CO Soap worked the best in Bath Fizzies. I would recommend the same stabilizer for your bubble cakes. Thank you for your question.

"I used the vanilla stabilizer as instructed and I notice that the stabilizer and FO repel each other (looks like oil and water) even after much stirring. Is the stabilzer still working? Why is there a separation?"

It will work with vanilla essential oil as well! Vanillin is what causes discoloration from both natural vanilla oil and specially blended vanilla fragrance oils. This additive stops the vanillin from discoloring.

No you cannot. WSP offers three different types of stabilizers for CP, MP, and washes and lotions. I would not recommend using the same for both as they are formulated specifically for those products.

Staff Answer We do not provide a Vanilla Color stabilizer for Candles. From our experience fragrances with vanilla do not turn as dark brown as they may in cosmetic products.

Staff Answer Most people then add all of the liquid to the soap. For really strong fragrances, you can add just half. If you find your soap is too soft with the added fluid (maybe due to other additives) then you will need to decrease the amount of fragrance to 3/4 of the fluid.

Staff Answer Since you are blending this ingredient with your fragrance oil, you are actually compounding your own new fragrance oil. Therefore, the term "fragrance" is all you need to list on your ingredient label.
