Citronella

"Perfect addition for any bug sprays! As I always say with WSP essential oils. . . . I love that it's certified pure. Worked like a charm in bug sprays. I didn't make them for sale. . . . I only used it on my family. However, I do add this to my dog soap and it does great."

Christen (5/5)

Bug Off Spray

"This oil is excellent to use as a bug repellant. I use it, along, with tea tree and lavender EO, in my All Natural Bug Off Spray and soy candles and it works fabulously to repel ticks, chiggers, mosquitoes and sweat bees. If you need to know what percentage to use in your product, WSP provides that information for each oil under- neath the section entitled ""Documents"". As a result, you do not have to concern yourself with mistakenly adding too much or too little of the oil to your products. You get it exactly right."

Excellent

"This worked very nicely in a natural bug balm that I made using olive oil, beeswax and several other EOs. It is not harsh or chemically and it does repel bugs for quite a while."

Q&A

Is this oil safe for the skin
Citronella essential oil (EO) is generally considered safe for use on the skin when properly diluted. Use with carrier oil and test on skin before use.
Is Citronella EO safe to use in a bug spray for babies and children? If so, what's the recommended usage ratio/percentage? Is there a different percentage recommended for adults? Thinking of making a spray with a combination of EOs to still smell nice while repelling bugs but want it to be baby/child safe. Thanks!
This is something you need to consult with a pediatrician about. Citronella is safe for use in sprays for adults up to 5%, so you cannot use more than that.
Do you need specific labeling if you use citronella in candles?
We do not believe you need any special labeling if making a citronella candle.
What is another essential oil others mix this with to make candles or bug spray?
Lemongrass, Peppermint, Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary are some suggestions for repelling bugs.
Is this oil safe to use in candles?
I found Citronella EO to be a strong scent in my candles. I use closer to 4% to keep it tolerable.
