Nice butter, squeaky in lotion

"I enjoyed working with this butter, but ultimately the texture wasn't what I was looking for. It's a good bit drier/squeakier than shea, especially in an emulsified body butter. It didn't give me a lot of play time on rub in. It's a nice butter, though, if you want something on the drier side."

Sub for Cocoa

"Looking for an alternative to cocoa butter? This one is the best I've found. . . it does have a slightly higher melt point, but it can swap in most formulas."

Skin rejuvenation at its finest

"I've used Kokum butter in my healing salve for years and I'll never change that. It is a wonderful ingredient to add to your product if you're looking to put more skin cell regeneration and a quicker heal time into your product. Not to mention the added moisturizing benefits you're getting from it."

Q&A

Is this refined or unrefined kokum butter. If refined, what is the method.
Yes, the butter is extracted and further processed and refined to obtain a white butter which has a very mild odor. The method is by mechanical expeller press
Does Kokomo Butter need to be tempered (for lip balm or body butter) like Shea and mango?
No, the kokum butter does not need to be tempered before use in these products. Please see https://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/handmade101/how-to-make-recipes/Handmade-Lip-Balm-Recipe.aspx and https://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/handmade101/how-to-make-recipes/honey-nut-lip-butter.aspx
what is the percentage use for this butter in a hair product?
This is up to you and your formulation. It is a heavier, greasier butter, so we recommend starting with a smaller percentage, such as 3-5%.
Does this kokum butter have a very hard texture? Kokum butters from other suppliers are soft like shea butter. I want to know if this butter is that way.
It can vary with the lot, but it can be pretty soft, but it slightly harder than shea butter.
Can I substitute cocoa butter for kokum in the Rose Hibiscus Pedicure Moisturizer recipe?
Yes, you can sub this. Note the standard Cocoa Butter is yellow with a strong odor. You may want to use the Cocoa Butter - Deodorized & Ultra White.
