Product Details

Lanolin is extracted from sheep's wool. Our product is pure anhydrous lanolin and is used as an emollient in skincare products. This is commonly used in lotions, lip balm, creams and hair conditioners.

Directions:

DIRECTIONS: Slowly stir melted product into the oil portion of your formulation. Common use levels are lip products 5-100%, cold process soap 3-6%, lotions and creams 3-5%. Can be applied directly to the skin.

TIPS: The average melting point for the butter is 104-118°F. Butters provide moisturizing properties to products. To minimize greasy after feel we recommend blending with 1-3% cornstarch or isopropyl myristate. Test your final product to insure optimal performance.

STORAGE: Store in an airtight, cool, dark location. When stored properly, best used within 1 year from date of purchase.

CAUTION: For external use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

"I have recently taken a small amount of this lanolin and whipped it all by itself. I loved the texture results but was wondering, can I add an essential oil directly to it as I am whipping it? Or would it be better to melt the lanolin, add the essential oil, and then whip the combination after it re-firms?"

I mainly use it in body butters but have added it to melt and pour soaps with much success. I've never tried it, but it would probably work well in lip balms as well.

I am currently using the lanolin to my chapsticks, however, it does have a particular "sheepy" smell and stays in the chapstick. Not my favorite but still works well

"Hmmmmm......"

COMMENTS: I have used lanolin for years in lip care products and it's one of my absolute favorite ingredients. I've ordered it from a few places over the years, and the best type is the deodorized pharmaceutical grade because it's absolutely odorless and is a pale sunny yellow color. Lanolin that's not pharmaceutical grade has a strong odor to it and is a deeper color that has almost a faint greenish undertone to it. I've ordered lanolin from WSP in the past, and it was an odorless product, so I thought it would be the same now. I was running low on my supply of lanolin (ordered from elsewhere when I order materials from another supplier), so decided to add a small tub to my most recent WSP order for fragrance oils to see me through for a bit. Holy cow... was I shocked. It is NOT the same as I've received in the past from WSP and I'm thankful I only ordered a small container. This has a strong "sheepy" odor and is the typical deeper murkier color. Anyone who is familiar with sheep and lanolin that hasn't been deodorized will know what I'm talking about. As soon as I opened the package and could see the color through the jar, I knew based on the color this isn't the odorless lanolin. I see other reviews here talking about "finally a lanolin without an unpleasant odor".... and that used to be the case with WSP when I've ordered it in the past, but what I received this time is certainly not the same as what I've received before. :-(

"Good lanolin"

COMMENTS: This is perfect for a more natural lip balm or gloss, although not Vegan (which I have a lot of people asking for now) its very humectant and gives the lips a shine. I use some in my body butter formulations too. Its great for cuts or scrapes. I add some flavor oils for lip products and clients love it.

COMMENTS: have you every used/tried this stuff? the tiniest bit goes a very long way and it is wonderful! hubby swears by it for his poor chapped/cracked and bleeding hands. "Lanolin is a wonderful ingredient for balms"

COMMENTS: My granddaughter has very dry, cracked skin that peels as it heals on her feet and elbows. I made a balm with olive oil, avocado, oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, and lanolin and it is just what she needed! The lanolin protects and absorbs and is great for her dry skin. COMMENTS: I used this in a lip balm which I gave to a friend who buys her lip balm for $8 a tube and she told me that mine is just as good. I also use this in my foot salve and my feet are so very soft. I recommend using a popsicle stick to get the product out of the jar and then throwing away the stick. Lanolin butter is VERY sticky. DO wear gloves. Put wax paper down on your work surface. LOVE this product!

"Good But not for lip balms"

COMMENTS: I tried putting this in my lip balm recipe and it burned my lips when I tested it. I don't know if I put too much in it or what but I won't do that again. It looks like it is of great quality though. I plan to use it in a foot cream because I think the burning came from it seeping into the skin quickly which will be good for callused feet. It has a texture almost like honey but more creamy like peanut butter. It doesn't have much of a smell.

COMMENTS: I used lanolin butter in a cold process hand soap recipe a couple of months ago. Honestly, I can't tell a difference in soap with or without the lanolin, so I'm not sure it is worth adding it to cp soap (not sure it retained its quality). The lanolin butter is a very thick consistency, but seemed easy enough to work with. Others have mentioned a bad odor . . . it did not affect my end product at all. I gave it a good rating because I'm sure it is a quality product. It may be more appropriate to use it in creams and lotions, so I'm anxious to try that in the future.

"Exceptionally high quality lanolin"

COMMENTS: This is an incredibly high quality lanolin and I have found it has ALWAYS come fresh. There are other suppliers whose lanolin has an almost off-odor, but WSP's lanolin is always fresh and always has the clean scent that lanolin should have. I just truly wish that you could purchase in buckets rather than the small 1lb jars. Those jars annoy me to death.

COMMENTS: Thick luscious skin protectant.. I use it right out of the jar for my lips.. I added it to my hair conditioner to seal moisture and the primary reason I bought it was for my elbow and knee butter to keep the ashy away ;) Loveeeee This Stuff! Not so much the smell tho.

COMMENTS: I use this for my baby's butt balm. Add this to your melted oils so not to overheat the lanolin. Works great with virgin coconut oil. My own butt balm works better than any of the extremely expensive ones we tried from the store, probably helps that homemade one contains no added scents or weird preservatives.

COMMENTS: I'll be the first to admit that I'm a natural born skeptic. I've been using this in my CP soap at about 5% and it made an incredible difference in the silkiness of the bars. Also a must for lotion bars. I won't be without this product as long as I'm making CP soap and lotion bars. And at this price including shipping it's a great bargain.
