"Hello. I am trying to make wiped soap and wiped soap sugar scrub. What ingredients do I need to accomplish that? Also I would like for it to Lather very well please add the best preservatives that will keep it from growing mold 2nd what’s a good preserved that will be good for an oil/water body wash and something that can add leather? "Hello. I would like for my soaps to be more moisturizing. Will slsa or CB helps wit that? If not what do you suggest that I use to make my soaps more moisturizing to the skin? Can I use slsa in CPS ? Also cocmidopropyl betaine. When using slsa would it be best if I use them together when making CPS? If it can be done in that manner. Thank you sorry for the long message."

Staff Answer If your Cold Process soaps are not moisturizing, you can use different oils and butters in your recipe for this. A few moisturizing ingredients might be Argan Oil, Avocado Butter, Cocoa Butter, Jojoba Oil, Kokum Butter, Meadowfoam, Olive or Sweet Almond Oils. Lathanol powder (SLSa) and Cocamidopropyl Betaine are both surfactants that create lather and are not normally added to CP since you choose your butters and oils for this purpose, also. "I would just like clarification on the suggested usage amount for bathbombs. The directions and ingredients tab says “ Powder Foaming Bath Products: 15-25%” yet in a previous question it was answered to use 1 -1.5%. Is the suggested amount a percentage of total weight of the bath Bomb mixture? "

Staff Answer This is a suggested usage level. Powdered Foaming Bath Products can also mean bubble cakes, which require a higher percentage of lathanol. You can choose to add a little more to your bath bombs if you wish. The percentage is based on the total weight of the product.

Staff Answer This is called coarse so it could be differentiated from our original lathanol powder which was finer and much more airborne. This is still a fine powder and does not need to be ground any finer. We do recommend wearing a mask when working with this ingredient.

Staff Answer This product is not a sulfate. The Sulfur Dioxide is a very small residual left from the formation of the sulfoacetate portion of this product.

Staff Answer Adding additional ingredients like this can cut back on lather. If you also added any fixed oils to your recipe, that will definitely cut down on lather, too. Staff Answer The 3% would be calculated for the total weight of the batch. For a 1 lb. batch of MP soap, you would add approx. 0.50 oz. of lathanol powder.

"Will this product work to add lather to a sugar scrub made from only oils/butters and sugar? Also, if it will add lather, will that make it less greasy feeling after being rinsed off? I prefer a scrub that feels less greasy. If it will work, do you have a recipe for this type of product? Or do you know about how much slsa should be added, per pound of finished scrub?"

Staff Answer This may not be the best foaming agent to use. You might try adding Bubble Up (cocamidopropyl betaine) to your recipe. An oil based scrub is not easy to keep from feeling greasy. You could use our Foaming Bath Whip as your base. You can still add some oils and butters but this will not feel as greasy.

Staff Answer If making bath fizzies, this is the best product to use. If making a liquid soap, body wash, etc. you can add Bubble Up or Bubble Wash Pearlizer to add more suds to your product.

"Can this be added to a liquid castile soap? If so, at what ratio? I added some to make foaming hand soap using a foamer bottle. It worked great at first. More bubbles/foam. However, after a couple of weeks, it now doesn't have any foam when it is dispensed. It actually comes out of the foamer bottle like a slime. What could I have done wrong and what can help me rectify this? Thanks for all the great products & recipes! "

Staff Answer Without knowing the exact recipe, we cannot say why this is happening. When adding a liquid soap to a foamer bottle, it needs to be mixed with water, usually 3:1 or 4:1 water to base. You may also need to add a modifier such as the FO/EO Modifier or Polysorbate 20.

Staff Answer This can be used in the same way as our previous lathanol powder. The only difference in the two forms is that the coarse is less powdery so it will not be as airborne as the previous powder. It is still in a powder form bu a more coarse powder.
