"I made melt & pour soap using Detergent Free Goat's Milk base, Stained Glass Lemon Lime drops for color, (10 drops per 1 pound of soap), and Lemongrass EO #138 per the fragrance calculator recommendation. My soaps partially turned an orange-like color a few weeks later. Any idea what made that happen?"

"When calculating the IFRA limits of an essential oil to skin cream or any other topical use, there are varying numbers for each oil. Does this mean you can have UP TO that amount from one essential oil, or does it mean with using this particular essential oil, it is the most the combined essential oils cab be in volume allowed to be skin safe. Also, the flash points are listed in degrees. Is this Celsius or Fahrenheit?"

Staff Answer First view the IFRA document's category 9 for maximum levels in soap. Most people use 6% or the IFRA number, if it smaller than 6%. For example, if the IFRA number is 10%, then they use 6%. If the IFRA number is 3% then they use 3%. You use the smaller of the two percentages.

Peppermint is on the strong side, I would recommend just slightly over 3% per pound. That would amount to .5 oz per pound. That would be my starting point and work your way up to your desired preference.

For lavender, I would start with .7 oz per pound of oils. This comes out to about 4.5% This would be a good starting point. I like to blend lavender with other essential oils to give it a nice complexity.

Usually with CP soap most people use 0.5oz per pound. However, with a strong EO such as cinnamon that can be an irritant I use 0.25 per pound of OIL (not batter) and the scent comes through with no complaints of irritation. However, you should follow the guidelines for percentages.

You NEVER go over the recommended as it could be too strong for a customer or even be too strong for your product. However, you can use as little or as much as you want up to that point depending on how strong you'd like your scent to be. As a rule of thumb I use 0.3-0.5 per pound of oil with EOs.

"Smells So Good!"

COMMENTS: This was really nice with cold process soaping. Absolutely no issues with any of the myriad of things that could have gone wrong. The scent of lemongrass is a favorite and our customers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of more of our soaps with lemongrass as the main character or in a supporting role. It has been about a week and the scent is still going strong!

COMMENTS: I have used several essential oils but this one just cuts it for me. I use it to scent my african black soap and a little goes a long way. I mean its so concentrated. I have used one bottle for up to a year now. I cant believe this. It was a little pricey for me at first compared to other lemongrass essential oils i have purchased in the past but now i know why. "Lemongrass for summer"

COMMENTS: The lemongrass EO is awesome in my cold processed soap. It did not cause it to trace fast. Gave a slight tint in the color, but I like it. I use unrefined coconut oil, I know for me, this did make a difference in how my soaps traced. Will be buying this again this summer. Work well when I infuse real lemongrass in my coconut oil.

"Scent goes on and on"

COMMENTS: I made a castile soap with this and lavender EO in August of 2017. It has been curing for 6 months and the scent is still strong and true. I am very impressed with this EO. It also is very nice to work with: no acceleration, brown discoloration (it is yellow, but that's usually not a problem for a lemon scent), fading, or any other problems. This is a staple in my soapmaking supplies.

COMMENTS: This lemongrass truly holds its scent and customers seem to like it. A little bit goes a very long way so it is worth the price. COMMENTS: Because many essential oils are just too volatile in CP soap and tend to fade considerably during cure (a major bummer, especially if it was a more expensive one), I tend to mainly stick with FO's when making CP soap. However, I do have a few "go-to" essential oils that I LOVE to use, blend beautifully with pretty much anything, and are "hardy" enough to stay strong through cure... Lemongrass is one of those essential oils. It's never let me down, and just opening the bottle to take a sniff brings an instant smile to my face! This is EXCELLENT quality Lemongrass EO at an equally excellent price!!! This essential oil does great in any CP recipe I incorporate it into, and with how well it blends with other EO's & FO's, the possibilities are endless when it comes to creating truly unique & uplifting aromas! It stays true through cure, and I wouldn't go anywhere else to purchase my Lemongrass EO... WSP has the best quality & price, hands down! Thank you WSP for another OUTSTANDING product!!

I love to blend it with peppermint and gardenia. The peppermint gives a refreshing touch and the gardenia adds a nice softness. Really pairs well with many different combinations. COMMENTS: I use a large amount of this oil and it is a favorite for many of my customers and it doesn't matter what base I use it always turns out great! I have mixed it with Eucalyptus and smells strong but the customer always knows best! So I am sticking with this combo!

"Amazing quality!"

COMMENTS: I use lemongrass in several of my products and it is my most requested essential oil scent. This one from WSP is amazing, it is nice and strong and has proven to be a deterrent to the mosquitos in Arizona, Florida, and California. My clients count on my products to be safe and natural, that is why I only purchase this through WSP! I love it in deodrant as well, it seems to be growing in popularity for its ability to keep its scent all day long! Cant live without this essential oil!
