Staff Answer Yes you can use this product in bath salts. For the bath milk soak you can use shea 50 but i advise to test to make sure that the product does not separate.

Staff Answer You can replace the Shea 50 with Polysorbate 80. A 1:1 ratio is usually appropriate. We do recommend using one or the other as a dispersal agent; the amount of Shea 50 or Poly 80 should equal the amount of oils (fixed and fragrance/essential) and butters in the recipe.

"This is to be added at 2%. So if I have 8 oz of foamer base, does the 2% replace 2% of the foamer base? Or is it 2% of the total 8 oz. added to the base? I hope this makes sense. Just trying to see if that percentage (by weight) is added to the total base or replacing part of the base."

Staff Answer Shea 50 is a water soluble product so we are not sure if it can be incorporated into oil/butter based products. This would need to be tested for compatibility in a recipe.

Staff Answer You could mix the Shea 50 with the water before emulsifying. You might try adding this at 2%, which would be 0.32 oz.

Staff Answer No, you would not need a preservative. If adding to a ready-made base, that base contains a preservative and as long as the Shea 50 is added within the 5% maximum for additives, you would be fine without the preservative.

Staff Answer There is not a set amount to add to your water based product. We recommend starting with 1% and adding additional shea as desired.

Staff Answer We have not used this in a CP recipe. We would need to put this into the lye calculator and we are not quite sure how to do this since this is still a butter but is water soluble.

Staff Answer PEG 50 Shea butter is a Polyethylene Glycol derivative. It is water soluble shea butter made using a special process.
