Staff Answer We do not use preservatives in any of the MP bases. Any time you are exceeding recommended usage rates, you are essentially creating a new product and will need to test thoroughly. Assuming your additives would alter the pH of the base, it would be up to you to determine which preservative would be most appropriate to use with your specific product specs.

Staff Answer You can definitely add honeyquat to this base. Our MP bases can hold up to 6% additives, but I would recommend adding between 0.5-1%. You can always add more, but this is a safe range to keep the lather.

Staff Answer Some people add 1 tablespoon of stearic acid per pound of MP Soap Base. To do this successfully, you would need to melt the stearic acid and then melt the soap. When you add the two together, melt them individually and mix them together at 160-165º F. This is important in preventing the stearic acid from re-solidify into wax like drops throughout the soap. Any time you add stearic acid to clear soap it will impact the clarity and make it cloudy.

Staff Answer This soap is not detergent free. Our Detergent Free line of soaps do not have added detergents. There are a few different ingredients that create lather. The main ingredient is Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Coconut Oil also helps create lather in soap.

Staff Answer This would need to be tested on different hair types. Adding additional shea butter can cut down on the lather the soap produces. You can test the soap adding .5-1% of shea to the soap base to see how this affects the lather.

Staff Answer We do not know how this will work. You will need to test this. We have added lathanol powder and bubble up to MP soap but not SCI noodles. Be sure not to add more than 6% additives to the soap base. Otherwise, the soap may remain soft and not harden back up.

You can use cube clamshells for a one-time use for each cube. These more guest-sized soaps can be stored in the clamshells for future uses. "I use this soap base for shave bars, I add Kaolin Clay and would like your thoughts on adding any additional oils, etc. for a silky effect. Staff Answer We have found that adding additional oils to an MP Soap Base can significantly decrease the lather of the soap. When added at 3% or less additives do not seem to effect the lather significantly. I would recommend looking at the benefits of one of our extracts, such as our Carrot Seed Extract or our Silk Amino Acids.

That is the nature of shampoo bars. If she is used to normal shampoo her hair may go through a 2 wk adjustment phase.Also if she isn't using a vinegar rinse or conditioner afterwards, that may be why. Everyone has different hair and some people do not do well with shampoo bars. It isn't recommended to add addition liquids to these bases. you could try aloe Vera powder, silk amino acids powder etc. there is only some much you can do with a pre made base. Good luck

Like the person posted above, it takes a while for your hair to get used to shampoo bars. Indeed, you will need to use a conditioner after using shampoo bars, but that is true if you're using liquid shampoo, too. If you used fragrance, rather than essential, oils in your shampoo bar, that could be the problem. Fragrance oils will definitely dry out the hair. It's always best to only use essential oils in shampoo bars.

"I want to use this to make shaving bars. Since it will be used in a shaving mug, some water is sure to gather in the bottom. Will the soap become gooey and gloppy or will it have some staying power, even if it is a little softer?"

Staff Answer Most men use just enough water to create a good lather when using shave soaps. That small an amount of water will dry out quickly. This being said I have not found shave soaps to be gooey, gloppy or short lived.

I add a suggestion to my shaving soap instructions to allow to dry after use. Most men don't cover their mug anyway, so it isn't a problem.

A more acidic formula would be more prone to growing mold and other nasties, especially after contact with water. This is an appropriate ph for this product.

Staff Answer Products with PH around 7 are best used for pets. This soap has a PH of around 8 so we do not recommend using this soap in a pet bar base. If you don't add any additional liquids then you wouldn't need to add a preservative, but if your making a product where water is introduced by wet fingers, then you may want to consider it.

Staff Answer Syndet is a shortened term for synthetic detergent. All detergents are synthetic. Therefore our MP Soap Bases would be considered a syndet soap. All of our detergent free soap bases would be considered syndet free since they do not contain any detergents.

Staff Answer It is designed to be used as both. We do get reports that people with long hair prefer a liquid soap over a shampoo bar. Shampoo bars are most popular with short hair.

Mold should not be a problem with mp soap. I never had mold on the soap, and it was stored for more than two years.
