Reviews

Inconsistent and Extra Large Chunks

"Inconsistent for sure. I purchased 18lbs and some there is quite a mix of extra large chunks and powder among the preferred size flakes, but over all it does what it should. Just takes longer to dissolve and the dust gets in the air."

I love this product. I

"I love this product. I have used several our brands but I went back to this on becuse it works the best with goat milk. The particles break up great and you don't need to cover it at all. I highly recommend it to anyone making cold process soap."

Sodium Hydroxide Flakes

"I bought these in bulk awhile back and am just now running low, but they are great quality. I will definitely buy them from here again."

Eveie C. (5/5)

Large flakes

"I prefer how much faster the beads of lye dissolve to these larger flakes. . . they take forever! But on the bright side these don't have any static cling issues and they go where you want them to go."

Lye Flakes

"I continuously buy my lye from WSP for years. It’s the best flakes & cleanest. I have bought from another known supplier & the lye was riddled with dirt. I will always buy here & you should too."

Debbie P. (5/5)

"Light flakes are so much better to handle than granules. There’s no lye dust flowting around in the air when measuring."

Normadlin (5/5)

Quick!

"Arrived a lot quicker than I was expecting. Now to make some soap!"

Melissa B. (5/5)

Excellent Quality Sodium Hydroxide Flakes.

"The sodium hydroxide flakes arrived in great condition and were exactly what I needed for my formulations. The flakes are clean, consistent in size, and dissolve well when preparing lye solutions. I also appreciate the reliable quality, which is important when working with precise cosmetic or soap formulations. Overall, a solid product that performs as expected. I would definitely purchase again."

Q&A

Hi, How long will sodium hydroxide last if properly stored?I ordered about 7 bottles on February 2023 which I kept in a cool dark closet, never opened and in the original orange plastic bag from wholesale supplies. I didn't get to use as intended. I'm wondering if it's still good, and will it be for a few more years since I don't make as much soaps as I used to.There's many different answers both here and the internet. Thank you very much for your help.
The product is good for 1 year after purchase date.
Can I add this to a milled down rebatch from Stephens and Stephens...also can you add this to a CP recipes ?
NO, you cant add this product to remilled stephenson soap base, But you can add it to CP.
I see that your sodium hydroxide used to be made in China, but this was several years ago. Is it now made in USA?
No, the country of origin is China.
How is the 18lb size lye packaged?
Hydroxide flakes are 9 plastic jars to a box (10x10x10)
how is the 18lb packaged? Is it in a one big pail or multiple 32oz jars?
18lbs is sold as 9 2lb containers

Sodium Hydroxide Flakes

Crafter's Choice Sodium Hydroxide Flakes—commonly known as lye or caustic soda—are food-grade, high-purity white, opaque crystals with a formula of NaOH.

These flakes are highly hygroscopic, absorbing moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, and are highly soluble in water, ethanol, and methanol. They are widely used in various industries, including manufacturing pulp, paper, textiles, drinking water, detergents, and as a pharmaceutical excipient.
