Smells. . .

"I'm not sure what is going on with this base. It smelled like rancid oil in the jar. I thought maybe after it had been melted down that would change. It didn't. I wasted 100 tubes on this stuff. I don't know if it was old base they sent me or what happened but it not only smells like rancid oil you can taste it as well. I'm hoping this is just a fluke and it will be replaced but I've still wasted 100 tubes"

Makes the BEST Lip Balms

"After making my own lip balms for years as Christmas stocking stuffers, I was in a hurry this year, so decided to try this base. I don't know how they put together such simple ingredients and create the best balm-- ever! It's a little on the soft side, so I added just a tiny touch more beeswax to the second batch. Truly lovely and heavenly on the lips. It's amazing for preventing chapped lips. One of the ingredients is Shea OIL (not butter)- so I wonder if that is why there is not one bit of graininess! Easy peasy--just melt, pour, refrigerate for a couple hours, add labels, and voila!"

Taste/smell

"I really like the texture. However, the smell and taste of this product is horrendous. Even with the full flavor oil load the taste of the base still overpowered it. I won't be able to use it because of this. It is far too strong and pungent. Not pleasant at all."

Lip Balm Base

"This base is excellent. Just creamy enough without being greasy. No drag or stickiness. Excellent"

I am obsessed with this p. . .

"I am obsessed with this product! I went from using a few separate ingredients to having all the ingredients I use plus added ingredients in an already made base. Advantages: It's easier to measure and it's easier to pay one price for all the ingredients rather than pay for all separate ingredients Disadvantages: It goes way too fast and I need to buy more often."

I bought this base becaus. . .

"I bought this base because it is exactly what I have used for a a lip balm mix on my own. This made the process a little faster. This is a nice blend with a soft shine and creamy texture. I added some cocoa butter to give it a nice chocolatey scent for my last batch. I think I am going to add a little more beeswax to the next. I like a little more of a harder balm to prevent melting in the car or in my pocket!"

Q&A

What is the expiration time for this base?
1 year after purchase date.
Do you need to add a preservative like vitamin E to this base?
Vitamin E is not a preservative. It is an antioxidant. A preservative helps to protect oils and other products from oxidation and spoilage. Preservatives are substances that inhibit the growth of microorganisms, while antioxidants prevent the breakdown of molecules due to oxidation. You can add a preservative, but typically they're used when you have the possibility of water contamination or water is a main ingredient.
Can you elaborate on the directions. It's blank on the description. My main question is melting point. Thanks!
The melt point will be between 160-170 degrees. The directions are on the product page.
Is there any recipes or how to use this? Can it be used in a stick form?
yes. this can be used in a lip balm tube. You can follow our recipes that we have on our site and switch out the lip balm bases.
Can you add essential oils to this base? If yes at what percentage and do you need a preservative? Looks like same ingredients I use today but add vitamin E and essential oils.
We recommend using flavor oils.
