This can be used as-is as a massage gel. Or, for a scrub, simply add your choice of exfoliant directly to base and hand mix. For traditional salt and sugar scrubs, use approximately 50% Suspension Oil and 50% solids. Adjust as desired for satisfactory level of abrasiveness. If adding preservative, test thoroughly to ensure viscosity does not change. Our Fragrances or Essential Oils can be added at a ratio of up to 3%. If adding a carrier oil, we recommend no more than 2% to minimize separation as the silica may not be able to thicken all the oils. What will end up happening is when the solids are added there will be more separation of solids and oils, so you will end up with a thicker layer of oil on the top and some settling of solids.

"I purchased the 4 pound container and then since it was on sale, I bought another one. I typically make my own scrub base and this one isn't what I thought it would be for my product line. It is nice but it doesn't hold the added essential oil fragrances (I used more than enough certified pure essential oils) on the skin. That said, I reworked the ""recipe"" after adding Jojoba Oil, Babassu Oil, Shea 50 Liquid and Phoenonip at a very limited amounts. I haven't given up on this base, because I have so much of it, I am still figuring out what to Incorportated into the base for fragrance and other skin loving ingredients."

Can you just add the jojoba oil beads, preservative and fragrance or does it require another oil?: Hello, this base does not require the use of preservatives or additional oils, but they can be used. More information may be found under the product details.

Each gallon of Suspension Oil Base should render two gallons or more of finished product. Butters may be too heavy, but you can always test.
Does the Silica (thickener) give the product a "dry" feeling? I've tried using Silica in an oil cleanser, and it actually felt like it was drying to the skin.: No, The base is moisturizing, its contains great carrier oils that will help with moisturizing
