"I bought this and use it on my dogs. For anyone that owns Chihuahuas, they can get a funky taco smell to them. I bathe them weekly in this product. It cleans well, conditions their skin and leaves their fur super soft. The only con I would have is the fragrance, but that is easily remedied, by choosing a different fragrance. . . But some people might light the baby powder, too. Product quality is great!"
Great Shampoo Base for Dogs
"I have a Golden Retriever/Lab mix and his coat is extremely thick. After using this base with my added ingredients, his coat dried extremely soft and after using a few times his skin was no longer dry and irritated looking. I've also notice he scratches less since using this base. It lathers and rinses well."
Exceeded Expectations
"Love this kit! First I placed the shea in the mixing bowl and broke it up into smaller bits using the metal whipping piece (for a stand mixer). I let it whip on number 6 for 15 minutes, stopping periodically to scrape down the bowl. I used 4 tablespoons of the tapioca starch and whipped some more. It doesn't seem to be possible to over-whip shea butter (as long as it's only shea butter and no liquid oils added), but the more it is whipped, the more air will be in the final product. This does not seem to be a negative for my customers, and even makes it a little easier to use. Using this method, I ended up with a little extra even after filling the containers to the brim. We keep our house pretty warm, around 80 degrees, which probably helped with the whipping process. If the shea is too hard to whip, try microwaving it for 10 seconds. And whip whip whip!"

- What size of label would I need?
- Many labels will be appropriate for this bottle. Bottle measurements are Height: 6.75 Length: 1.875 Width: 1.875
- Can I switch the fragrance?
- Hello - yes. But you should review the fragrance in questions IFRA guidelines to see if it is pet safe. Category 9.
- Is it save to add other fragrance oil? And should I add the same amount as the recipe? Thank you!
- You can use another fragrance oil if you like. Be sure to check the IFRA usage level for Pets to be sure it is safe and at what percent. For this particular recipe, we used the fragrance at slightly over 0.50% (0.675 oz). We would not recommend using more than 1% in the base. It will thin out the product if too much is added.
- Can colloidal oatmeal be added to this pet shampoo? If so, what else would I need to add and at what ratio? If I add pearlizer would this affect the oatmeal?
- The colloidal oatmeal can be added to this base. We would recommend adding 1-2%. Try mixing into a small amount of shampoo and blend well. Once it is well mixed, add to your larger batch and stir to blend. Adding pearlizer may actually help suspend the oatmeal better. Since this is not a suspension base, some of the oatmeal will settle to the bottom.
- Could you add color to these and they be pet safe?
- We would recommend adding a very small amount of color, if you need to color this product. One or two drops of Stained Glass Liquid Dyes would work best.
