"What usage rate percentage is everyone using for soap (cold-process specifically)? IFRA says 12%, but I was taught not to use more than 5% fragrance oil. I don't want to use too little and not have a scent, but I also do not want to use too much and have it separate or be overwhelming."

"Great fruity scent"

COMMENTS: This doesn't really smell like wine. It's more like grape juice, but that worked for me. It's a great summer soap and I had no issues with it. Just be sure to use a vanilla stabilizer with it for a true grape color.

"Fragrance separates"

COMMENTS: I did not find that this fragrance oil behaved well with cp oil even though there are many reviews here stating it does. I’ve been making soap for over 10 years so this is not a new process for me. The fragrance oil separates out and pools on the soap during the cure. I will wait it out and hope that it incorporates itself back in but this is not an optimal situation.

	"Most people love it, but I definitely don't. "
COMMENTS: I'm giving it 4 stars even though I hated it because 85% of people who smelled it, loved it. I don't understand that at all because it smells like burnt wine to me and my brother. I actually thought the batch was ruined and sadly asked my family to smell how horrible it was. They were like "oh wow that's amazing. What is it??" My boyfriend also loves how it smells like wine. Since people said it smells like chocolate. So if you love wine, maybe give it a try.

COMMENTS: This FO performed pretty well in my CP soap - just a mild acceleration (which may have been my zeal to mix). The smell when combined with our Merlot is great. Rich, deep and not what we expected, but good. We colored it just a tad and it's lovely.

"Wine"

COMMENTS: LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. This is my 2nd bottle. I sell many products in a place that is surrounded by wineries and this product is amazing - very nice merlot scent without the sour smell of actual merlot. This product mixes well with other oils and is very user friendly. I mix it with tangerine, lemon and blood orange and make sangria scents which smells like the real thing. When I add red wine to a product, I add this scent and you would never know it wasn't all the wine that scented it. Its a sweet merlot scent minus the sour - perfect blend.

"Great scent, excellent performer"

COMMENTS: I have been looking for a red wine scent that is true to Merlot but also fresh enough to still smell clean in a bar of soap. This is a winner for me! I have used it in both hot process & cold process loafs and the scent throw is awesome in both. It did not cause any acceleration for my cold process swirl. I like it so much I started to use it in my foaming hand soaps. It even inspired me to make red wine & chocolate bath bombs! I will definitely keep coming back for this scent.

	"The perfect mature fragrance"
COMMENTS: When I first opened the fragrance jar I mostly smelled cherry and a bit of the plum which reminded me of hard cherry candy. However after putting it in my lotion, and letting it set the cherry and plum become a rich mixture of the two. This is the perfect mature fragrance for anyone marketing towards an older audience.

COMMENTS: I love this scent and so do my customers. I mixed it with a little bit of a fruity FO to create my Sangria sugar scrub and oh my! Sold out right away. I'm going to soap with it soon as many people said it's lovely in CP. It is a bit fruity on it's own with a definite red wine scent, but it's not too strong.

	"Merlot Wine FO - detailed review"
COMMENTS: Results from my testing Merlot Wine FO in a basic "trinity" oil formulation, no gel, no colorant, 0.7oz FO PPO: The FO itself has a very pale yellow hue to it which is nothing out of the ordinary for fragrance oils. In the range of FO, from clear to amber, this is still on the lighter side of yellow. It did not accelerate or rice at all in CP Soap, so it was very well-behaved. The test sample DID discolor at pour to a slight yellow, and at 24 hrs was pure yellow...a lovely yellow, but yellow nonetheless. For this reason, if you choose to add color to your soap, work WITH the yellow and you should be fine. (For instance, if you add blue colorant to this batch of soap, it will most likely turn to some shade of green.) Personally, I think I'm going to just add nothing to it because the yellow is a very nice color, maybe I'll make a swirl of orange within the yellow base. The aroma is that of wine. Not being an aficionado of wines, nor a consumer of wines, I cannot describe a Merlot from a Chardonnay, but I can say that this does smell like some sort of wine. So I must assume it is reminiscent of a Merlot based on other reviews. It is not overpowering, it is soft and has a hint of floral. It is actually quite nice, regardless of whether it is reminiscent of its wine associated name. The strength of the FO is light. I would suggest going a little more than the traditional 0.7oz PPO (per pound of oils), perhaps take it to 1.0oz PPO.

COMMENTS: I have that UB 40 song stuck in my head after working with this FO. I have had a hard time finding a merlot scent I loved. This one is great in m&p and also fabulous in a matching lotion. I just wish it was lip safe.
