About This Recipe:

You will love how easy it is to color Versagel with our new EZ Colors. This recipe uses Matte Americana Red to tint the gloss, pefect for Fall. The depth of color is up to you, the more drops you add the deeper the lip stain. This recipe makes 9 tubes of Versagel Lip Gloss.

Shopping List:

(1) 2 oz Versagel Lip Gloss Base

(1) 2 oz MCT - Mid Chain Triglycerides Liquid

(1) 2 fl. oz Caramel Apple - Sweetened Flavor Oil 1002

(1) 1 oz EZ Color - Matte Americana Red

(1) 1 Each Plastic Syringe - 2 oz

(9) 1 Set 10 ml Natural Lip Gloss Squeeze Tube with Natural Cap

Recipe Ingredients:

Measure ingredients with a scale or precise measuring tool.

• 2 oz. Versagel Lip Gloss Base
• .96 oz. MCT - Mid Chain Triglycerides Liquid
• .09 oz. Caramel Apple - Sweetened Flavor Oil 1002
• 4-10 Drop(s) EZ Color - Matte Americana Red

Equipment From Home:

• (1) Scale
• (1) Microwave
• (1) Microwave Safe Measuring Cup
• (1) Spoon or Spatula

Directions:

NOTE: If you are making these products for sale, good manufacturing practices recommend you wear a hairnet, gloves and a mask. We also recommend a clean apron, workspace and sanitized equipment.

Empty 2 ounces of Versagel into a microwave safe container.
Add .95 ounce MCT to the Versagel and stir well.
Heat Versagel mixture in the microwave for 30 second intervals for 1 minute. Stir until the Versagel and oil are completely incorporated.
Add flavor oil and mix well.
Add 4-10 drops of EZ Color. The more color that is added the more color there will be on the lips.
Using a spatula, fill the syringe with the lip gloss mixture.
Place the syringe tip at the bottom of the lip gloss tube.
Press slowly on the plunger to fill the lip tube.
Place the wiper on the end and cap.
Label accordingly.

To Use: Apply lip gloss to lips as desired.

Ingredient Label: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (and) Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer (and) Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Medium Chain Triglycerides, Flavor Fragrance, Castor Oil, Iron Oxides.

"How do you suggest we label this container? It is odd shaped and very small. The font would have to be so small you couldn’t read it without a magnifier. Would having a small card to give info available on the display for the customer to take ... or is it required to be on the actual tube?"

"I tried making this and substituted MCT with fractionated coconut oil (I thought I read that someplace on website) and used candied lemon drop flavored oil. I heated the Versagel base and heated the fractionated coconut oil and blended them and then added the flavor oil and micas. It was separating as I was piping into squeeze tubes. It has really separated now after cooling. Any thoughts where I went wrong? This was my first attempt and I made only 1/4 recipe so I'm not out much!! lol"

Staff Answer We do not suggest using Coconut Oil 76 with versagel as it is a solid at room temperature. This is likely the cause of the separation. The flavor substitution is okay to do.

The answer provided indicated not to use coconut oil 76 which I didn't use.....note in my question, I used FRACTIONATED coconut oil that remains liquid at all temps!!! Please read again and try to help me. I have a huge jar of this base and so far is not worth a dime to me!!!

Staff Answer If you added more oil or flavor oil than the recipe called for this could be the cause of separation, as too much of any oil will cause separation. cause separation. Also, if it was overheated this can cause issues. The base is only recommended to be heated up to 160°F.

"Is the MCT necessary, or can it be substituted with another oil? Would another non-greasy fast absorbing oil (maybe grape seed or rice bran) work just as well?"
